At first, it does look like a mess. That’s just the way Louisiana artist Joe Mustachia creates. He says, “One of the things I love about the paintings is all the texture it has, layers and layers you can run your hands across and you can feel it.”

WGNO Good Morning New Orleans features reporter Bill Wood goes beyond the frame.

The frame is also painted by Mustachia. He was born in raised in Chalmette and went to college with plans to be a PE teacher but life changed and he mowed grass for a living for a while.

The whole time, there was an artist deep down inside him. A few years ago, he picked up a paint brush full time.

“Now instead of dripping sweat, I’m now dripping paint,” said Mustachia. Now here he is ready for his show at Orleans Gallery that opens on Saturday, Dec. 6.

“His artwork is all about memory. Sometimes even larger than life.”
